Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The New York Yankees made a slew of roster
moves on Saturday in anticipation of Monday’s season opener against Toronto,
chief among them placing pitchers Chris Capuano and Ivan Nova on the 15-day
disabled list.
Capuano, signed to a one-year deal shortly before Christmas, is dealing with a
strained right quad. Nova is continuing his rehabilitation from Tommy John
surgery last year. Both of those moves are retroactive to March 27.
In addition, infielder Jose Pirela was placed on the seven-day concussion DL
retroactive to Thursday, and infielder Brendan Ryan went on the 15-day DL
with that move retroactive to Wednesday.
Catcher Austin Romine was designated for assignment and the Yankees selected
the contract of infielder Gregorio Petit. Petit had been acquired by the Yanks
from the Houston Astros for cash on Wednesday night.
