Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Texas Rangers pitcher Derek Holland was
put on the 60-day disabled list Saturday due to a subscapular strain in right
shoulder.
The team also placed outfielder Ryan Rua on the 15-day DL due to a right ankle
sprain.
Holland, who left in the opening inning of his first start of the season on
Friday against Houston, is not expected to throw for four weeks.
The 28-year-old lefty missed a large chunk of last season after tearing
cartilage in his left knee that required surgery prior to the start of the
season.
Rua suffered his injury while fielding a ball in left field during Friday’s
game. He started each of Texas’ first five games this season in left field and
has compiled a .235 batting average.
The Rangers also purchased the contract of outfielder Carlos Peguero from
Round Rock and recalled pitcher Jon Edwards from the Triple-A club.
