Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex
Gordon had wrist surgery on Tuesday, but should be ready by spring training.
The procedure repaired the extensor retinaculum in Gordon’s right wrist, which
bothered the All-Star left fielder for most of the 2014 season.
“Alex reached out just prior to Christmas to report that he was experiencing
some right wrist discomfort during his offseason workouts,” said Royals
trainer Nick Kenney in a statement released by the team Tuesday. “We asked him
to come to Kansas City after the holiday for an evaluation and it was
determined he needed to have this repaired now to avoid any further
complications and any delay in his start to the upcoming season.”
Gordon helped the Royals win the AL pennant last season by hitting .266 with
19 home runs, 74 RBI and a .351 on-base percentage. He also picked up his
fourth straight Gold Glove Award.
The two-time All-Star will turn 31 before the start of spring training.
