Fort Myers, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell
received a contract extension Saturday.
The Red Sox extended his deal through 2017 and added a club option for 2018.
Farrell is entering his third year as Boston’s skipper and has seen both ends
of the spectrum. The Red Sox won the World Series in his first year of 2013
and finished last in the AL East in 2014.
Boston was 97-65 in his first season and won the World Series for the third
time since 2004 with a six-game triumph over St. Louis, but slipped to 71-91
last year.
Farrell, a pitching coach for Boston from 2007-10, rejoined the Red Sox after
a two-year stint as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was 154-170 in
Toronto and has an overall managerial mark of 322-326 in four years.
A native of New Jersey, Farrell pitched in parts of eight seasons from 1987-96
for the Indians, Angels and Tigers.
