Pirates snag Bastardo from Philadelphia

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired left-
hander Antonio Bastardo from the Philadelphia Phillies for a minor league
pitcher.

Bastardo, who was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for his part in
the Biogenesis scandal in 2013, was just 5-7 last season for the Philadelphia
Phillies with a 3.94 ERA in 67 games. However, he did strike out 81 batters
in 64 innings.

He also did not allow a run in 12 of his final 13 appearances last season,
while also limiting opposing hitters to just three hits in 37 at bats (.081
average) during that stretch.

The 29-year-old Dominican is 20-18 lifetime with 11 saves and a 3.72 ERA in
275 games (5 starts).

Double-A left-hander Joely Rodriguez will head to Philadelphia to complete the
deal.
