Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) – The Baltimore Orioles have signed left-
handed reliever Wesley Wright to a one-year contract, the team announced
Friday.
A seven-year major league veteran, Wright spent last season with the Chicago
Cubs and pitched in 58 games, going 0-3 with a 3.17 earned run average. The
29-year-old was granted free agency after the Cubs opted not to tender him a
contract earlier this month.
Wright, who has made 360 appearances in the majors and held lefty hitters to a
.238 average for his career, joins a Baltimore bullpen that lost fellow
southpaw Andrew Miller to the rival Yankees in free agency.
Initially breaking into the majors with Houston in 2008, Wright pitched five-
plus seasons with the Astros before being dealt to Tampa Bay in August of
2013. He owns a 10-18 lifetime record with a 4.17 ERA and has struck out 290
over 299 2/3 career innings.
