Morrow, Upton lead Padres over Rockies

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Brandon Morrow pitched six good innings
and Justin Upton hit a go-ahead two-run single, leading the San Diego Padres
to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.

After Morrow (2-0) gave up two runs, seven hits and one walk in six innings,
Brandon Maurer and Craig Kimbrel retired the last nine Colorado batters to
seal the win.

Maurer threw two perfect innings and Kimbrel struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth
for his seventh save of the season.

The Padres have won the first two games of the three-game series after being
swept by Houston.

Charlie Blackmon hit a solo homer for the Rockies, who have dropped four in a
row.

Colorado starter Jorge De La Rosa (0-2) suffered his second loss to the Padres
this season after giving up three runs on five hits and three walks in five
innings. He struck out nine.

Wil Myers drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning for San Diego
and scored after consecutive singles from Derek Norris and Matt Kemp.

The Rockies tied the score in the top of the second after Carlos Gonzalez
walked with one out, went to third on Nick Hundley’s single and came home on a
groundout by DJ LeMahieu.

They took a 2-1 lead on Blackmon’s leadoff blast over the center field wall in
the top of the third, his third homer of the season, but it didn’t last.

After Myers drew a leadoff walk and Norris followed with a double in the fifth
inning, Upton drove them in with a single to give the Padres a 3-2 edge.

They extended it with a run off reliever Brooks Brown in the sixth inning
after Clint Barmes hit a two-out single, went to second on Will Venable’s walk
and scored on Myers’ single.

The Rockies had runners at first and second base in the sixth inning after
singles by Troy Tulowitzki and Gonzalez but Morrow escaped, getting Hundley on
a ground ball.
