San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Tim Lincecum outdueled Jered Weaver on
Sunday and the San Francisco Giants took down the LA Angels 5-0 to complete a
three-game sweep.
Lincecum (2-2) tossed eight scoreless innings for the first time since July 1,
2014, yielding just three hits with a walk while striking out four. He also
had two of San Francisco’s 10 hits.
Weaver (0-4) meanwhile saw his ERA jump to 6.29 after yet another forgettable
outing. He gave up two first-inning home runs and never got back on track,
allowing five runs on 10 hits over five innings.
The Giants have won six straight home games and nine of their last 13 overall.
Nori Aoki and Joe Panik hit back-to-back homers leading off the bottom of the
first to give Lincecum some early run support.
Brandon Belt plated Panik in the third when he grounded into a fielder’s
choice. In the fifth, Belt nearly delivered again when his moon shot to deep
center fell just shy of the wall and bounced over for a ground-rule double,
sending Buster Posey to third. Both runners scored on Brandon Crawford’s
double one batter later.
One runner reached base in each of the first three innings for the Angels, but
Lincecum limited the damage. He then retired the side in the fourth and fifth
before LA threatened again in the sixth.
Chris Iannetta singled and Erick Aybar walked, bringing up Mike Trout with no
outs. Trout made solid contact, but his liner was caught in center field by
Angel Pagan, and Lincecum retired the next two batters.
Jean Machi relieved Lincecum and took care of the ninth inning.
