Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Toronto Blue Jays have placed shortstop
Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list with a cracked left rib.
Reyes suffered what was termed an oblique injury during a series against
Baltimore in early April and sat out the entire series against Atlanta from
April 17-19 before returning April 21.
He tried to play through the pain over the past week and had just three hits
in his last 23 at-bats, including a 1-for-4 effort on Monday against Boston,
before the Jays decided to put him on the DL.
In 16 games this season, Reyes is batting .250 with seven runs batted in and
six runs scored. Before sitting out the series against Atlanta, he was batting
.324 in 10 games.
The Blue Jays have recalled shortstop Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Buffalo to
fill the roster spot.
