Indians pitcher Carrasco struck in face by line drive

was hit in the face by a line drive Tuesday night and was carted off the

Carrasco was struck in the top of the first inning by a ball hit by the second
batter of the game, Melky Cabrera of the Chicago White Sox.

The ball appeared to deflect off his pitching hand and his glove before making
contact with the right side of his face.

Carrasco collapsed face-down at the front of the mound and remained there
before sitting up. He was holding the left side of his face as he was helped
onto the back of the cart.

The 28-year-old agreed to a new four-year contract with the Indians last week
after posting an American League-best 1.30 ERA over his final 10 starts last

The right-hander struck out 10 in 6 1/3 innings of a 2-0 win over Houston last
Wednesday, giving up just three hits and a walk in his 2015 debut.
