Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Roberto Perez had three hits, including
his third home run, and Jason Kipnis drove in four runs in the Cleveland
Indians’ 7-5 win over the Kansas City Royals to avoid a series sweep.
Kipnis hit a three-run homer in the third inning that gave Cleveland the lead,
and he was credited with an RBI on a sixth-inning groundout. Michael Bourn had
two hits and scored twice.
Danny Salazar (3-0) struck out seven in six innings but allowed four runs, and
the beleaguered Cleveland bullpen only allowed an unearned run in the final
three innings.
Royals starter Yordano Ventura (2-2) avoided getting ejected for a third
straight start, but he struggled in the loss. He was charged with five runs on
six hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings but only struck out one batter.
Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run and Kendrys Morales also drove in two for
the Royals.
