Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – The Cleveland Indians acquired right-
handed pitcher Charles Brewer from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday for cash
considerations.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Brewer, the Indians designated left-
hander Scott Barnes for assignment.
The 26-year-old Brewer made four appearances out of the Arizona bullpen in
2013, allowing two runs and striking out five in six innings of work. He split
the 2014 season between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno, finishing with an
11-12 record and 4.46 ERA in 169 2/3 innings between the two levels.
Brewer was a college teammate of current Indians starter Trevor Bauer at UCLA.
Barnes, 27, made his big-league debut in 2012 and pitched two seasons in
Cleveland’s bullpen. In 22 appearances, he owned a 5.20 ERA in 27 2/3 innings
with 26 strikeouts. He pitched out of the bullpen for Triple-A Columbus in
2014, finishing with a 3.69 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings.
