San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The San Francisco Giants have acquired
infielder Casey McGehee from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league
pitchers Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo.
The Giants have been searching for a third baseman since Pablo Sandoval left
last month to sign with the Boston Red Sox.
McGehee became expendable when the Marlins acquired infielder Martin Prado
from the New York Yankees in a five-player deal on Friday.
The 32-year-old McGehee won NL Comeback Player of the Year honors after
hitting .287 with 29 doubles, four home runs and 76 RBI in 160 games with the
Marlins in 2014. He spent the 2013 season with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in
Japan.
McGehee owns a career .264 batting average with 128 doubles, 65 home runs and
359 RBI in 711 MLB games with the Cubs, Brewers, Pirates, Yankees and Marlins.
Flores went 4-6 with a 4.09 ERA over 20 starts with Class A Advanced San Jose
this past season. The Dominican Republic native accumulated 112 strikeouts in
105 2/3 innings.
Castillo made 48 relief appearances at Class A Augusta in 2014, going 2-2 with
a 3.07 ERA and 10 saves.
