Up in Arms with the AL
From the teams themselves to the actual pecking order at the top, the American League races are in a heavy state of flux for being this late in the season. Two days to go and the marching order has not been in tune. KC and the Royals battle back and forth to see whom will get that potential pivotal extra home game. Let us examine how Friday’s action failed to break some of the stalemates out there.
93-67
KC has it cut out for them. Both they and Toronto are at 93-67. A tie however goes against the Royals as they lost the season series against the Jays. This goes much farther than just the extra game at home in the ALCS. It also sends the Wild Card Winner north of the border while KC gets the AL West champ. Meanwhile, New York should have the home field for the wild card. As long as they either win one game or the Astros lose one then the Bronx holds this one game duel.
AL West Crown
Texas will be looking for their magic number of one to come home for the AL West crown. The Angels prevented the festivities by beating Texas 2-1. Meanwhile Houston plastered 21 runs in a laugher Friday night. This has been quite the comeback for the Rangers since that horrid 67-95 record last year. They never got into double digits down this year but to rally from 9.5 games out is impressive never the less.
Finally, Houston controls their own destiny being one up with two left to play. Minnesota would have to hope for perfect perfect in wins and then losses by Houston. After that, they would still need help. The Angels have been hot in this September only losing ten of twenty nine. A tie results in a play in game for the Wild Card elimination game.
