San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Los Angeles Dodgers placed All-Star
outfielder Yasiel Puig and right-handed reliever Joel Peralta on the 15-day
disabled list on Sunday.
Puig hurt his hamstring on April 13 and has been used sparingly since, playing
in just five of Los Angeles’ last 10 games. The move is seen as precautionary,
and the Dodgers expect him back when he is eligible to return.
With Kenley Jansen on the DL, Peralta had been acting as Los Angeles’ closer
and recorded three saves in seven scoreless appearances. He has been dealing
with a sore shoulder all season, and an approximate return date is not yet
known.
To replace Puig and Peralta on the roster, Los Angeles added right-handed
pitchers Scott Baker and Carlos Frias to the roster. Frias allowed 22 runs
in 32 1/3 innings for the Dodgers in 2014, and Baker has allowed just two runs
in three starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.
Right-handed reliever Brandon League was transferred from the 15-day DL to the
60-day DL to make room for Baker on the 40-man roster. League has not pitched
this season with a shoulder injury.
