Cespedes powers Tigers to series win

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Yoenis Cespedes supplied the power for
Detroit in the Tigers’ 9-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Cespedes crushed the first grand slam of his career in the first inning and
added a two-run homer in the third for a personal-best six RBI.

Victor Martinez went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Tigers,
who took two of three from the White Sox in the series.

Detroit’s Shane Greene (3-0) continued his incredible start to the season,
tossing seven strong innings. He gave up his first earned run on five hits
with four walks and three strikeouts.

Jose Quintana (1-1) allowed nine runs on 10 hits in four-plus innings for

Quintana needed 42 pitches to get through the first. He retired two of the
first three batters, but a single by Victor Martinez and a walk to J.D.
Martinez loaded the bases for Cespedes, who crushed a 3-2 offering over the
left-center field wall.

James McCann tripled to begin the bottom of the second for Detroit and scored
on a Rajai Davis single to make it 5-0.

Cespedes homered again with two outs in the third, hitting a line drive to
left, then Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos each hit RBI doubles in the
fifth to put Detroit up 9-0.

The only blemish for Greene, who pitched eight innings in each of his first
two starts while giving up one unearned run, was Jose Abreu’s RBI triple in
the sixth.

Game Notes

Detroit turned four double plays … The White Sox were 0-for-5 with runners
in scoring position … Melky Cabrera had two of Chicago’s six hits.
