Brewers blank Pirates for first win

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) – Jimmy Nelson threw seven scoreless innings
and combined with two relievers on a two-hitter, as the Milwaukee Brewers
finally broke into the win column with a 6-0 victory over the Pittsburgh
Pirates on Saturday night at Miller Park.

Jean Segura clubbed a two-run homer and Hector Gomez keyed a three-run second
inning with a two-run double for the Brewers, who were the only team without a
victory entering the day.

Nelson (1-0), Milwaukee’s fifth starter, was brilliant, striking out nine and
walking just two. He allowed only a first-inning infield single to Francisco
Cervelli and a seventh-inning base hit by Starling Marte.

Will Smith and Jonathan Broxton each tossed a perfect inning to complete the
shutout.

Vance Worley (0-1) was tagged for all six runs in defeat for Pittsburgh, which
had picked up its first win of the season on Friday with a 6-2 triumph in the
series opener. Worley allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out four.
