Braves sign infielder Callaspo

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Atlanta Braves have apparently agreed
to deal with infielder Alberto Callaspo.

Although terms of the agreement are unknown, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez
confirmed the pact, pending a physical, to MLB Network Radio.

Callaspo had an awful 2014 season for the Oakland Athletics, hitting just .223
with a .290 on-base percentage in 127 games.

The 31-year-old Callaspo has spent the majority of his nine-year big league
career at third base, but has also seen time at second, shortstop and the
outfield corners. The hope is that he’ll be able to handle the starting second
base duties until top prospect Jose Pereza is ready.

Callaspo is a career .267 hitter over 996 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks,
Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels and A’s.
