Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) – Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis
underwent successful surgery to mend a bulging disk in his neck on Wednesday.
Markakis, who signed a four-year contract for a reported $44 million on Dec.
5, is expected to resume training in eight weeks and should be ready for
spring training.
The 31-year-old won his second Gold Glove award in 2014 and batted .276 with
14 home runs and 50 RBI over 155 games for the AL East champion Baltimore
Orioles.
Markakis owns a career batting average of .290 with 141 homers and 658 RBI
over 1,365 appearances spanning nine seasons with the Orioles.
