Braves blank Reds to earn series split

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) – Julio Teheran kept Cincinnati guessing over
six strong innings to help the Atlanta Braves blank the Reds 5-0 in the finale
their a four-game series.

Teheran (3-1) limited Cincinnati to three hits and two walks while striking
out six to get back in the win column. Atlanta lost his previous two starts
after winning three straight to start the season.

Kelly Johnson and Jonny Gomes homered, while the No. 2 thru 6 hitters in
Atlanta’s lineup all scored one run.

The Braves beat up Reds starter Johnny Cueto (2-3), who surrendered five runs
on nine hits over six innings. They blitzed him in the first inning, with
Andrelton Simmons and Freddie Freeman hitting back-to-back doubles before
Johnson’s two-run homer made it 3-0.

Then in the third, Gomes smacked the first pitch he saw over the wall in left
for a solo shot.

Jace Peterson led off the sixth inning with a single, advanced on a balk and
scored to pad the cushion when Cameron Maybin laced a single to center.

Cincinnati’s best chance came in the second inning, when Brennan Boesch
followed Brandon Philips’ two-out walk with a single to right. But Teheran got
Brayan Pena to line out to end the threat.

The Reds never put a runner on third base.

Game Notes

Each team took two games in the series … Reds shortstop Zack Cozart left the
