Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Hank Conger’s two-run homer in the 14th
inning helped the Houston Astros to a 6-4 win over the Texas Rangers to wrap
up a three-game set on Sunday.
Jake Marisnick hit a two-run homer, Luis Valbuena added a solo shot, and
Marwin Gonzalez also drove in a run for the Astros, who took two of three in
the set.
Dallas Keuchel allowed two runs on six hits with three walks and three
strikeouts over seven innings, while Will Harris (1-0) worked two flawless
innings for the win.
Leonys Martin drove in two runs while Rougned Odor and Carlos Corporan each
chipped in one for the Rangers, who left the bases loaded twice in extra
innings.
Colby Lewis gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out five in 7 1/3
innings on the hill, and Logan Verrett (0-1) was handed the loss.
With one out in the 14th, Evan Gattis worked a walk before Conger blasted a
shot over the wall in right for a 6-4 lead.
Samuel Deduno came on in the bottom of the 14th and loaded the bases with two
outs. Odor worked the count full before ripping a liner to right, but George
Springer made the running catch to secure the win and Deduno’s first save of
the season.
Houston went on top in the second inning and got it started with a solo homer
from Valbuena. After the next two batters recorded outs, Colby Rasmus sliced a
triple to right, and Gonzalez followed with a double. Marisnick then hit his
first homer of the year for a 4-0 lead.
Texas loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Adam Rosales hit into a
double play to end the threat.
The Rangers finally got on the board in the seventh, as Martin hit a two-out,
bases-loaded single to center to score two runs and make it a 4-2 contest.
Elvis Andrus grounded out to end the frame.
Texas tied the game in the eighth with a pair of runs as Odor worked a bases-
loaded walk, and Corporan followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-4 game.
In the home 10th, the Rangers loaded the bases with two outs and Martin hit a
fly ball to deep right field, but Springer tracked the ball the whole way and
made a leaping catch at the wall, robbing Martin of extra bases.
