Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Oakland Athletics and free-agent
designated hitter Billy Butler agreed to terms on a three-year contract on
Tuesday.
Butler, who is coming off a World Series appearance with the Royals, is slated
to make $30 million over the length of his contract. Kansas City declined his
club option for the upcoming season, using a $1 million buyout instead.
The 28-year-old hit .271 with nine home runs and 66 RBI over 151 games last
season. He also supplied eight RBI on a .262 batting average in 13 games
during the postseason for the Royals.
Butler, who was an All-Star in 2012, owns a career batting average of .295
with 127 home runs and 628 RBI in 1,166 games over eight seasons, all with the
Royals.
