Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Albert Pujols, Matt Joyce, David Freese
and Johnny Giavotella all knocked in two runs as the Angels pounded the
Rangers 10-2 in the rubber match of a three-game AL West series.
Mike Trout recorded three of the Angels’ 12 hits, drove in a run, stole a base
and scored twice in the rout. The offensive outburst overshadowed a solid
outing from Hector Santiago (1-1), who threw seven innings of one-run ball.
“Today was good, especially to bounce back after yesterday,” said Freese.
Carlos Corporan and Adam Rosales provided Texas’ runs with homers in the fifth
and ninth innings, respectively.
Anthony Ranaudo (0-1) had a quick and painful Rangers debut. The offseason
acquisition from the Red Sox did not make it out of the second inning and was
charged with six runs on six hits.
“I don’t know if there were too many things that were consistent today for
me,” Ranaudo said.
Those runs came in the second frame, the first two on Giavotella’s humpback
liner to the left-field gap. Erick Aybar’s safety squeeze plated another run,
Pujols singled under the glove of Elvis Andrus to bring in the fourth, and
Joyce hit one to the same spot as Giavotella to drive in two more.
Anthony Bass relieved Ranaudo and got out of the inning before coughing up
four more runs. Trout produced an RBI single in the fourth, Pujols did the
same in the sixth, and Freese knocked them both in later in the frame with a
Adam Wilk made his MLB debut behind Santiago and worked out of a bases-loaded
jam in the eighth before serving up Rosales’s leadoff blast in the ninth.
